Thomas L. Langford has been named president of Parsons Corp.

Langford, 50, replaces Ray W. Judson, who turns 65 this month and plans to leave the post on Oct. 1. When Judson steps down as president, he will continue to serve as special assistant to Leonard J. Pieroni, Parsons’ chairman and chief executive.

Langford, who came to Parsons from the New York-based accounting firm Price Waterhouse, previously was Parsons’ executive vice president and comptroller. He had served on Parsons’ board since May, 1989.

Langford said he will focus on making the company more responsive to the diverse environmental, transportation, natural-resources and military industries it serves. He said Parsons will also explore emerging market opportunities in infrastructure construction for nations of the former East Bloc.

During his 21 years at Parsons, Langford has been involved in major corporate financial operations. He oversaw the acquisition of more than a dozen key domestic and international subsidiaries during the company’s period of rapid growth in the late 1970s and early 1980s.

Langford was also involved in Parsons’ 1985 transformation from a public firm into one of the largest privately owned firms in the United States. Parsons is now 100% owned by its work force of about 10,000 employees.

Pasadena-based Parsons Corp. is one of the world’s largest engineering and construction firms. It has managed or built numerous projects around the world, from Orange County’s John Wayne Airport to Los Angeles’ subway system to gas and oil projects in Saudi Arabia and the North Slope of Alaska.
