Bo Calls His Shot and Beats A’s

Bo doesn’t do things halfway.

When he hit his first home run in his comeback, Bo Jackson delivered a 417-foot smash that won a ballgame. He also called his shot.

Jackson’s homer to center in the seventh inning at Chicago Tuesday night provided the White Sox with a 1-0 victory over the Oakland Athletics.

The home run, in his 37th at-bat since returning from a career-threatening hip injury, broke up a pitcher’s duel between Greg Hibbard (10-10) and Ron Darling (3-4). Darling had given up one hit and had struck out nine before Jackson’s homer.

The called shot was first made famous in Chicago by Babe Ruth in the 1932 World Series.

“I told Mike Huff after I struck out in the fifth that I was going to hit one out next time,” Jackson said. “But I was just joking.”
