Rams’ Thin Blue Line Isn’t a New Story

Share

In Bob Oates’ column of Sept. 17, he states that the Rams’ offensive line has gone from one of the best to worst in two or three years.

This is from a Times article on a Ram-Saint game: “The vaunted offensive line, which long kept quarterback Jim Everett safe, crumbled under the surge of linebacker Pat Swilling and end Frank Warren, who shared four of the team’s five sacks.”

The date of this article? Oct. 23, 1989. In the Rams’ other 1989 contest with the Saints, Everett was sacked six times.

Either the Rams’ offensive line is not as bad as it looked Sunday but just doesn’t match up against the Saints, or maybe it is bad and has been bad much longer than many people realize. I’m not sure which myself.
