Danny Lane, a former Laguna Beach High School baseball player who was a batboy for the 1984 U.S. Olympic team, has been selected to play in the 1992 Summer Olympic Trials, which will be held Nov. 1-10 in Homestead, Fla.

Lane, a junior shortstop at UC Santa Barbara, batted .350 and led the Gauchos with 60 runs batted in and 11 home runs in 1991 despite missing the final 24 games because of a broken finger.

Lane set a Santa Barbara record with 10 RBIs in a game against U.S. International and was leading the nation in RBIs before the injury.
