Stadium Drinking

Share

There seems to be a growing concern by nonsmokers to curb all smoking at San Diego Jack Murphy Stadium even though there are designated areas for nonsmokers. I guess I’ve been fortunate in having sat next to considerate smokers who leave their seats to have a cigarette or do not exhale in my direction.

I wonder if these same people pushing for a nonsmoking stadium would object to making the stadium a nondrinking stadium. Regardless of whether it’s “only beer” people are drinking, they still become loud and obnoxious, and spill their beer recklessly on surrounding fans’ hair and clothes.

Then there’s the added hazard of these beer-swilling fans getting behind the wheel of a car in the parking lot. To me, they are much more dangerous to one’s health (and enjoyment of the game, and not conducive to enjoying family entertainment) than the smoking fans. I’m not a teetotaler by any means, but if these “sports” men and women can’t go for approximately three hours without a drink, I’d say they have a serious problem and should get help for the sake of themselves and everyone else.

Let’s make it a nonsmoking and nondrinking stadium.
