COLLEGE ROUNDUP : Irvine Takes Big Early Lead, Holds Off USC

Fourth-ranked Irvine (5-1) took an early 7-0 lead and went on to a 13-8 water polo victory over No. 7 USC Saturday at the McDonald’s Swim Stadium in Los Angeles.
Marc Hunt scored four goals for Irvine (5-1).
In the Aztec Invitational cross-country meet:
Both Irvine Teams Fourth--UC Irvine men’s and women’s teams both finished fourth in the meet at San Diego’s Morley Field.
Irvine sophomore Traci Goodrich finished fourth in the women’s race with a time of 17:32.7 over 5,000 meters. Senior Aaron Mascorro was the top Irvine finisher in the men’s race with a time of 25:50.76 over 8,000 meters.
In nonconference men’s soccer:
UC Irvine 7, Southern California College 0--Kevin Smith scored two goals to tie Irvine’s career scoring record of 41.
