New Pan Am Chief Aims for Profitability: The next chief executive of Pan American World Airways said he wants to bring the carrier out of bankruptcy court protection by early December and make it profitable next year. Russell L. Ray Jr., a 30-year veteran of commercial aviation who now serves as vice president and general manager of commercial marketing at Douglas Aircraft Co., said those goals will be his priorities when he takes charge at Pan Am next Tuesday.
