Robert Gates’ Bid for CIA Post
Although I agree with the basic ethics Black expounds in his article against Gates’ confirmation I disagree with his shortsightedness and lack of common sense.
Just because one competitor, the Soviet Union, has been temporarily distracted, does not mean that the U.S. has won the “war.” Is it wise to throw down our arms so soon? No.
The job that Robert Gates is being considered for is to ensure that the U.S. operates at an advantage. If Gates is the epitome of the classic ruthless spy, so be it. As long as we keep the dog on a leash, he can still protect the house.
