COSTA MESA — A motorist who ran a red light triggered a five-car smash-up that knocked one car into the air and flipped another over, police said.
Irene Card, 55, of Santa Monica was driving north on Harbor Boulevard about 10 a.m. when she apparently ran a red light at Victoria Street, Police Lt. Sam Cordeiro said.
Her auto hit a car driven by Mathew Bongiovanni, 23, of Anaheim, flipping it upside down, Cordeiro said.
Card’s car then struck a third auto, sending it spinning into Bongiovanni’s car, Cordeiro said. The impact sent the third car, driven by Tammy Manuel, 30 of Costa Mesa, into the air.
When Manuel’s car landed, it crashed into two other cars that had stopped for the red light.
