The King and the Comedian: Just for a moment, King Mswati III of Swaziland would like to take a break from being the world’s youngest reigning monarch to share a couple of laughs with actor Eddie Murphy. His 23-year-old majesty, in New York to address the United Nations General Assembly, is a devoted Murphy fan, but alas, the two men won’t meet this time around--neither has a spare moment in his schedule.

Which Wife?: Richard Ernest Jenkins liked getting married so much that he did it again and again. Unfortunately, San Francisco court officials say, he never cared much for getting divorced. After the 53-year-old repair shop operator died of a heart attack four months ago, three women stepped forward to say they were his legal widows. Two more wives and two ex-wives were located a short time later, as well as a former girlfriend who has demanded child support from Jenkins’ $1-million estate. Court officials say Jenkins had at least three sons named Richard Jr.

Is That Clear?: Free overdrafts and loose check-cashing privileges at the House bank are coming to an end for U.S. representatives who can’t keep their checkbooks balanced. Speaker Thomas S. Foley said House members “will have the same rights, no more and no less,” as the public has at any bank. A system similar to a commercial bank is in the works.

A Tampa woman who became the subject of intense publicity after a neighbor videotaped her having sex with her boyfriend in their condo attempted suicide Thursday by taking a drug overdose. Janet Paddock, 32, made headlines when she and her boyfriend were arrested in July after police saw the video a neighbor had shot through the blinds of the couple’s ground-floor condo. They were originally charged with lewd and lascivious conduct because neighbors said children could see the couple from outside. Paddock was treated and was released in stable condition.
