LOS PADRES FOREST : Officials Confiscate Marijuana Plants
Federal and Ventura County narcotics officials have confiscated 156 marijuana plants, with an estimated street value of $780,000, from a secluded area in Los Padres National Forest, authorities said Friday.
The raid, part of the U.S. Forest Service’s Campaign Against Marijuana Planting, known as CAMP, turned up the plantation during a helicopter search. There is no vehicular access to the site. The Forest Service led the operation, assisted by two members of the Sheriff’s Department’s narcotics division. No arrests have been made.
Officials said they found shelters and a vegetable garden. They believe that at least two people were living near the plantation, which was about nine miles northwest of Ojai. A bear skin and deer antlers from animals killed illegally were also found.
