Wilson Approves Funds for Southwest College

Gov. Pete Wilson on Friday signed measures authorizing emergency funds for Los Angeles Southwest College, where officials must tear down half of the campus’s only permanent building because it was found to be directly over an earthquake fault.

One measure, by Assemblywoman Marguerite Archie-Hudson (D-Los Angeles), provides $2.57 million to erect temporary classrooms while the threatened building is demolished. The other bill, by Assemblyman Curtis Tucker Jr. (D-Los Angeles), appropriates $428,000, enough for six months’ rent for the stopgap structures.
