Nijinsky’s Prince, the longest shot on the board, stunned nine rivals in the stretch Saturday at Fairplex Park and won the $104,800 Pomona Derby.

At 25-1, Nijinsky’s Prince trailed the field for more than a half mile before jockey Omar Berrio sent the colt past rivals down the backstretch. They were forced four-wide entering the final turn in pursuit of early leader Doc Of The Day, who had shaken off early challengers Persianalli, Gambler’s Way and Border Run.

Nijinsky’s Prince, the son of Nijinsky’s Secret, pulled away in the closing yards to win by 1 1/2 lengths in 1:51 1/5 for the “about” 1-1/8 miles.
