Biased View of Keller

Share

Your stories about the removal of Walt Keller as mayor of Malibu and his replacement by Larry Wan (Times, Sept. 1 and Sept. 5) make occasional reference to some kind of ineffectiveness on the part of Keller. Such information must have come from a biased source not representative of major community opinion.

The City Council is composed of only five members. Of these, Keller received by far the largest number of votes when the original council was formed. After the election, three of the members, Wan among them, formed themselves into a group consistently opposed to Keller’s suggestions supporting reasonable growth of Malibu as mandated by the voting residents.

It took only three votes to shift from Keller to Wan, and Wan’s vote, of course, was one of these. The three votes of the consistent dissidents were made despite hundreds of written and vocal pleas from local residents that Walt be permitted to remain in office. A triumph, indeed, for power over the clearly stated needs of the people.
