Government Seeks Funds for Continental, Eastern Pensions: The Pension Benefit Guaranty Corp. said it filed six claims seeking $935.5 million from Continental Airlines and its affiliates to bolster their under-funded pension plans. Three of the claims were for a total of $183.2 million required to shore up seven under-funded Continental pension plans. The agency said it filed another three other claims totaling $752.3 million for a shortfall in seven pension funds terminated in October, 1990, by Eastern Airlines, a defunct sister company to Continental. Continental has operated under Chapter 11 bankruptcy court protection since December, 1990.
