Share

In its first rate increase since 1983, the Capistrano Beach County Water District will raise residential and commercial water rates by about 50% starting in January.

The basic rate for 1,000 cubic feet of water will jump from $8 to $12, said John Serences, the district’s general manager. The price for each 100 cubic feet of water exceeding 1,000 cubic feet will jump from 80 cents to $1.20.

Under the new rates, a typical bimonthly bill for a residential customer will go from $13.60 to $20.40. The Capistrano Beach County Water District released a survey of neighboring water districts showing comparable bimonthly costs as $28.93 in the South Coast Water District, $25.13 in the Capistrano Valley Water District and $21.40 in the city of San Clemente.
