Off-Duty CHP Officer Kills Suspect After Chase
An off-duty California Highway Patrol officer shot and killed a burglary suspect in Long Beach after a high-speed chase, authorities said.
Two other people were arrested in the incident Sunday night, which began when Irvine residents caught a man and woman burglarizing their home, police said. The man fled, returned with another man to free the woman, and all three drove away in a truck.
A Seal Beach patrol car pursued the truck. It drove into an alley toward the off-duty CHP officer, who was escorting members of his church carrying church funds for deposit. The truck did not stop and the officer fired four times, fatally wounding the driver.
