Hawks Sign Augmon, Cut Moncrief
Stacey Augmon became the first top-10 member of the NBA’s 1991 rookie class to sign Monday, and his deal with the Atlanta Hawks could mean the end of Sidney Moncrief’s career.
Augmon, the ninth player selected in the June draft, signed for a reported $6.5 million over five years.
To make room for Augmon under the NBA’s salary cap, the Hawks renounced their rights to Moncrief, who joined them last season after a one-year retirement. Before that, Moncrief had played 10 seasons for the Milwaukee Bucks.
