Union Pacific Corp. promoted Richard K. Davidson to chairman of the Bethlehem, Pa.-based company.

Davidson 49, became president and chief executive of Union Pacific Railroad in August. He began his railroad career in 1960 as a brakeman-conductor on the Missouri Pacific Railroad, working up to vice president of operations of the merged Missouri Pacific-Union Pacific Railroad in 1986.

He was elected vice president ofoperations of Union Pacific in 1988.
