Jim McMahon will be out of action for at least three weeks with sprained ligaments in his right knee, but the Philadelphia Eagle quarterback won’t be placed on injured reserve. “Maybe the better guess is four weeks,” Coach Rich Kotite said.

The Dallas Cowboys waived fullback Alonzo Highsmith, whom they got in a trade with the Houston Oilers last year. Highsmith hadn’t fully recovered from knee surgery when he left the Oilers after three seasons.
