Gas Leak

Share

Am I crazy? Does it seem more than a little ridiculous to anyone else that the official policy of the gas company is to dispatch crews “within two hours, or at least by the next morning” in cases of emergency (“Gas Co. Faults Dispatcher in Lakewood Home Blast,” front page, Sept. 27)? We aren’t talking about the pilot in someone’s water heater going out, we’re speaking about leaks in an external gas line! What kind of policy is this?!

I had the misfortune of experiencing this inadequacy of response firsthand a few weeks ago. Fortunately, I called 911 and a fire crew was there within minutes to cap the leak. Much later, of course, the gas company came and repaired it properly.

“High standards for safety and customer service . . .” this is not! There seems to be a need for redefining the “company policy” at the gas company.
