Sex and the Television-Minded Teen

Share

I am a senior at Chatsworth High School, and my opinion is that if the networks feel it’s necessary to show premarital teen-age sex, then they should do it in good taste. I’m not saying that they haven’t been, but it seems as if adults oppose these kinds of shows.

There are some parents who don’t even like to talk to their children about sex. And the schools may teach it, but only give us facts, not real-life situations. If teen-agers don’t learn from their parents, then where can or should they learn? And if it is difficult for parents to talk about sex, it is even more difficult for teen-agers to bring up the subject.

I feel that the sitcoms such as “Blossom,” “Roseanne” and “Doogie Howser, M.D.” educate with humor and good taste. If teen-agers don’t get information from these sitcoms, where they discuss birth control, then they may get information without the subject of birth control being discussed.
