NATION IN BRIEF : VIRGINIA : Tennessee Ernie Ford in Critical Condition

Country singer Tennessee Ernie Ford was reported in critical condition in a Reston, Va., hospital, suffering from what his son described as an advanced liver ailment. Ford, 72, was hospitalized last Saturday after falling ill at Dulles International Airport in Washington when returning to his home in San Francisco after a state dinner at the White House, Bob (Buck) Ford said. Ford is especially known for the hit song “Sixteen Tons” and his TV variety show in the 1950s and 1960s.
