Eric Zeier was saying the kind of things coaches love to hear after the Georgia freshman threw two touchdown passes in Georgia’s 27-12 upset of sixth-ranked Clemson Saturday night.

“We can remember the win tonight,” said Zeier, who completed 15 of 33 passes for 249 yards. “We’ll have to forget it tomorrow. We get a new game every week.”

Both of Zeier’s scoring passes went to Andre Hastings against a vaunted Tiger defense that was overshadowed by Georgia’s big-play defense.

“They’ve got a great team,” Zeier said of Clemson. “It’s tough to go on the road and play big-time college football.”

Zeier’s scoring passes covered eight yards with 13 seconds left in the half and seven yards less than two minutes into the final quarter as the Bulldogs ended Clemson’s eight-game winning streak over two seasons.

The Tigers (3-1) had the nation’s best total defense, but it was Georgia that came up with the big plays.

Georgia (4-1) came up with three interceptions and two fumble recoveries to help the Bulldogs avenge a 34-3 loss at Clemson last year and end the Tigers’ three-game winning streak in the series, which Georgia now leads 37-17-4.

A crowd of 85,434 tore a page from the Atlanta Braves, going into a tomahawk chop and Indian chant routine several times during the game. The Braves wrapped up the National League West championship earlier Saturday.

“It’s a great day,” Georgia Coach Ray Goff said. “The Braves won and we won.”

The loss came in Clemson’s first road game this year.

“I think we shot ourself in the foot too much,” Tiger Coach Ken Hatfield said.
