Doll Hut to Book Better-Known Acts

Share

The Doll Hut, a tiny roadhouse at Manchester Avenue and Adams Street, plans to feature better-known bands now that it has received an entertainment and cabaret license.

Owner Linda Mello said the license allows her to charge admission, which in turn will allow her to pay bands for the first time. The club had been featuring informal shows by bands willing to play for free.

Mello said she will book rock and blues in an attempt to fill the void created when Night Moves in Huntington Beach closed.

“I’ve been working with some record companies and booking agencies that bring in bands from out of town,” she said. “Being able to pay the bands helps.”

The Doll Hut has begun charging a $5 cover on Fridays and Saturdays, Mello said, noting that admission is still free on weeknights when less established bands appear.

Upcoming shows include the Humpers and Mystery Train on Friday; Rhythm & Booze on Saturday; the Rhythm Lords Oct. 18, and an SST Records act, the Leaving Trains, Oct. 19.
