Gov. Pete Wilson, whose messages explaining his reasons for vetoing bills are much lengthier than those of his predecessors, fell out of character when he vetoed a proposal by Assemblyman Ted Lempert (D-San Mateo).

The bill would have required the state voters pamphlet to note whether a proposition was put on the ballot by the Legislature or by initiative, creating an additional printing cost of about $110,000.

“It’s not worth it,” Wilson said.
