John Peloza and His Teachings Are Taken to Task

It appears that John Peloza, the teacher of biology at Capistrano Valley High School, or his lawyer feels that using semantics will enable them to win their suit against the school district. By using the terminology that the origin of life happened by “intelligent design” instead of the terms “creationism” or “creation science,” they apparently expect to convince the courts that they have the right to introduce the biblical concept of Genesis into a class wherein the students are studying the science of biology. They are bringing this suit despite the fact that the courts, including the U.S. Supreme Court, have ruled that creationism is a religion and not a science or to be taught as a science.

It is hoped that the Capistrano Unified School District will fight this suit brought by Mr. Peloza, even though it means a strain on their budget. It is also very interesting to note that Mr. Peloza, the biology teacher, does not have a degree in biology. Some comment was made that Darwin only had a degree in theology. This is an interesting fact. Here was an early theologian who keenly observed the various aspects of natural science and arrived at this fantastic new concept which has since, based on hundreds of thousands of scientific data in all fields of science, been accepted on the whole by the entire scientific community with the exception of the handful that have contested it.
