As a faculty member at USC, it is difficult to keep a straight face (and a calm stomach) when the value of song girls is equated to that of Nobel Prize laureates. Unfortunately, much of the emphasis on mindless sexism referred to in the article is all too true on a campus that could (and should) be focusing on its academic achievements and potential. Dr. Steven Samples, as you commence your tenure as our new president, how about a realignment of priorities away from The Look and toward the classroom?

P.S. A word of encouragement for Shanyn Hammer, who didn’t make the squad--”But I wanted this so much. Cheerleading is my life”: There’s another life of real accomplishment waiting for you. Leave Madame Rouse’s makeup behind, grab your boyfriend and go to the library.
