More on Taos

Having just returned from a relaxed and wonderful stay in Santa Fe, N.M., I read with interest David Wallace’s “Taos: Like Santa Fe Used to Be,” Sept. 15. Come on, nothing ain’t what it used to be. Perhaps Taos has retained its rustic charm and less-than-fad ways, but Santa Fe has a separate and wonderful charm and history of its own. As for selling and “peddling” jewelry, the Pueblos do a great job at their craft so let them sell it. After all, it was the Anglos who taught them capitalism.
Comparing Santa Fe and Taos is like comparing Los Angeles and Santa Barbara (Los Angelenos know the difference) or, for that matter, Santa Fe, Taos and Albuquerque. Each has its own special vitality--and weaknesses.
