49 Men Arrested in Prostitution Sweep
Los Angeles police arrested 49 men over the weekend in an ongoing undercover sting operation intended to reduce prostitution along San Fernando Road in Sylmar and Pacoima.
The men, all of whom were cited on suspicion of solicitation for prostitution, offered money for sex to female officers posing as prostitutes, Sgt. Lee Allen said. The charge is a misdemeanor and the men were released on their own recognizance until their court dates.
The seven-hour operation, which began at 7 p.m. Saturday, targeted intersections at San Fernando Road and Kelowna Street and San Fernando and Hubbard Street. Seventeen men were cited at the Hubbard Street location and 32 at Kelowna.
Allen said the sting was a response to neighborhood complaints about the rising numbers of prostitutes in the area.
