Bye-bye bad times: Jim Everett believes the Rams have paid a price for their new aggressive defense early in the season. Learning Fisher’s scheme took a physical and mental toll, he says, and last week’s bye might have been the breather that will send the team sprinting into the remainder of the season refreshed.

“We were so banged up, and part of that had to do with the fact that this team was asked to do a lot in training camp,” Everett said. “I think we were beaten down early in the year.”

Talking big: It’s amazing what a victory will do for one’s confidence. The victory over the Chargers had second-year safety Pat Terrell thinking ahead to next Sunday’s battle with the Raiders.

“Now, we’re looking to the Raiders,” he said. “It’s a big bragging-rights game. It will give us some respect. I think some people have lost respect for the Rams, but we have a good defense and a good offensive unit. We are going into this game saying, ‘We want to put the Raiders in the back seat.’ They should take a back seat to us, that’s our attitude.”

Clear off some room on the bulletin board in El Segundo.
