Time on their side: San Diego dominated the first quarter, holding possession of the ball for 13 minutes 19 seconds compared to the Rams’ 1:41. The Rams ran only six offensive plays, including a punt, in the first 15 minutes.

But thanks to two long touchdown drives, the Rams actually finished with an edge in time of possession, 31:05-28:55. The Rams’ 14-play, 80-yard scoring drive consumed 8:19 of the second quarter, and their 11-play, 85-yard scoring drive consumed 7:53 of the third quarter.

Flagged down: The Chargers were penalized nine times for a loss of 99 yards, including several that stunted drives in the first half. Two holding penalties nullified gains of 12 and 18 yards in the first quarter, and another holding call nullified a 13-yard gain in the second.
