E.N. Phillips Co. in Woodland Hills said it has closed all but one of its “Testing 1-2-3” health-screening centers because of cost-cutting by the centers’ sponsoring hospitals.
The struggling company, which last December managed nine shopping mall screening centers, said it is exploring other growth opportunities. But negotiations to acquire Golden American Network, a fledgling, Beverly Hills-based cable network for elderly viewers, fell through because of what a Golden American executive called incompatibility between the two companies.
In the quarter that ended June 30, E.N. Phillips lost $472,294 on sales of $247,309.
Last week E.N. Phillips said it has signed a letter of intent to buy privately held AFB Systems Inc., a North Hollywood aircraft parts maker doing business as Sierra Tech. E.N. Phillips told shareholders in a letter that “it has been represented to management that this company generates substantial annual net profits.”
