Two Los Angeles County teachers have been named semifinalists in the 1992 California Teacher of the Year competition, state education officials announced Tuesday.

Ali Maxwell Taylor, a Granada Hills High School English and speech teacher, and Robert William Bruesch, a sixth-grade teacher in Rosemead, are among eight semifinalists selected from 57 nominees selected by county offices of education throughout the state.

Bruesch teaches a bilingual class at Frances E. Willard Elementary School in Rosemead, part of the Garvey Elementary School District. Bruesch, 47, who has taught for 25 years, also serves as a member of the Rosemead City Council. Taylor, 44, a teacher for 20 years, is noted among her students and peers for her energetic and creative classes, said students and administrators at Granada Hills High.
