A Newbury Park resident held two burglary suspects at gunpoint early Wednesday morning until police arrived and took them into custody.
Brent Williams, 24, of West Hillcrest Drive was awakened about 1:35 a.m. by sounds from the carport below his apartment. After arming himself with a handgun, he went to investigate the noise while his girlfriend called the police.
Williams confronted two young men who were removing his car stereo, a Sheriff’s Department spokesman said. Williams held them at gunpoint until deputies arrived.
Taken into custody were Joe Ray Hernandez, 19, and an unidentified 17-year-old, both of Moorpark. Hernandez was booked into Ventura County Jail on suspicion of burglary, violating probation, battery on a police officer, possession of alcohol and driving with a suspended license, according to jail records. The youth was issued a citation for burglary and released to his parents.
