IRVINE : Authorities Probe Mystery Shooting

Share

Authorities said Wednesday that they are investigating the shooting and beating of an ex-Marine, who was discovered over the weekend after field workers laboring near the Irvine Spectrum saw him lying bleeding in an empty parking lot.

“He was in bad shape,” Police Lt. Vic Thies said.

William Constable, 26, of Mission Viejo remained in a coma Wednesday night at Mission Hospital Regional Medical Center while Irvine police kept a close watch on him, authorities said.

FBI Special Agent James M. Donckels said Constable had been shot twice--once in the hand and once in the head. He had also been beaten badly, Donckels said.

Authorities have been unusually silent about circumstances surrounding the discovery of Constable.

Thies said only that Constable was spotted at about 10 a.m. on Saturday near the intersection of Alton Parkway and Technology Road, where several vacant buildings are located.

It was not known what the motive behind the assault was. FBI and police investigators declined to release any further information about the man or the mysterious circumstances surrounding his assault “because of the sensitive nature,” Donckels said.

He declined to elaborate further, saying only that Constable was discharged from the Marine Corps last year.
