Christo’s Umbrellas

Share

Environmental art at $26 million? I am afraid Christo’s perceived contribution to the world landscape does us all a disservice. Though I support the arts and freedom of choice and expression immensely, I cannot in all good conscience lend one bit of legitimacy to a project that so blatantly flies in the face of so many social issues that cry for our attention and our resources. If Christo wants to make an artistic difference and leave a mark in the environment, let him plant trees.

I could not help but think that each one of those umbrellas represented at least 64 human beings who have died of AIDS; and who knows how many children could have not gone to bed hungry. I am no screaming liberal but I can only say that the amount of money spent on something so temporary is an irresponsible obscenity. How dare he?
