A Dulled ‘Blade’

Share

After viewing the infamous “director’s cut” of Scott’s masterful “Blade Runner,” I find that this is less an opportunity for audiences to view the director’s true vision than it is for film critics to praise a film they almost universally panned at the time of its release.

I agree that eliminating the annoying narration is an improvement, but that is the only improvement. For those expecting to find restored footage, there is actually less footage than in the theatrical version.

“Blade Runner” was an incredible vision ahead of its time. But for critics to suddenly heap praise on this version feels more like an opportunity for them to recut their own past reviews.
