Catholic Policy on AIDS Programs

I have read Cardinal Mahony’s theological discourse in his commentary. I fear that he has (unwittingly, I hope) fallen prey to one of the most subtle and pernicious hazards of hierarchical religious thinking--he has succumbed to an ideology. As a result, the needs of real people with real heart are sacrificed for the advancement of an ideology. Compassion has no ideology.
