Micropolis Reports Loss Due to Drop in Orders

Share

Micropolis Corp. reported a $3.76-million loss for its fiscal third quarter, compared with a year-earlier profit of $2.88 million.

The loss was expected. The Chatsworth-based maker of computer disk drives had announced last month that it expected to post a loss for the quarter ended Sept. 27, largely because of slumping orders for its products from computer companies. Disk drives are the computer components that store and retrieve data.

Micropolis’ loss came on a 26% drop in its third-quarter sales, to $73.5 million from $99.8 million a year earlier.

For the first nine months of its fiscal year, Micropolis had a profit of $2.63 million, down 37% from $4.18 million a year earlier, and its nine-month sales fell 4%, to $263.4 million from $273.1 million.
