State transportation commissioners approved $4.9 million in state railroad bonds to speed development of a Ventura County-to-Los Angeles commuter rail line that is scheduled to start in October, 1993.
Half the money will be used to build a Simi Valley station and $1.6 million will pay for track and signal improvements along the 47-mile line, which is scheduled to run between Moorpark and Union Station. Another $829,000 will be used to build a station in Van Nuys. The Ventura County line also will have stations in Chatsworth, Burbank and Glendale.
The money comes from Propositions 108 and 116 transportation bonds approved by voters last year. The Southern California commuter rail network has received $154.9 million from the bond sales so far. Two other lines, from Los Angeles to the Santa Clarita Valley and to San Bernardino, also are scheduled to open next October.
