Woman Shot in Face With Gun Kept Under Pillow

A woman shot herself in the face while in bed, later blaming the accident on sleepy confusion between two objects she keeps under her pillow--her asthma medication dispenser and a .38-caliber revolver.

“I didn’t even know I had hold of the gun until it went off,” Vicki Childress, 38, said Tuesday night from her hospital bed.

Part of the bullet lodged in her jawbone, while a fragment broke off and exited through her mouth, police said.
