TARRYTOWN, N.Y. —
A man who routinely took target practice in the wooded area behind his house mistook his mother for a deer and shot her as she was pruning a tree, police said Wednesday.
Takeko Hose, 47, was reported in critical condition at a hospital. Her son, David Joseph Isamu Hose, 19, fired two shots from a .22-caliber rifle into her chest Tuesday evening, an officer said. Police said an investigation was continuing.
