CAMPAIGN ‘92: UC Irvine wants to be in the eye of the storm when George Bush seeks reelection. . . . It’s one of three UC campuses vying to host a 1992 presidential debate; 15 sites nationwide are under consideration. Being in the national limelight has its drawbacks: Chancellor Jack W. Peltason says it could bring 2,000 media people to the campus. The up side: “More people watch presidential debates than anything except World Cup soccer.”
