A total of 100 artists from California, Nevada, Arizona, New Mexico and Texas will convene, with their work, outside the Santa Barbara Museum of Natural History this weekend for Artwalk ’91. This third annual art show and sale will feature paintings, prints, sculptures, photographs, jewelry and other artistic media.

There will be plenty of art inside the facility as well. Fleischmann Auditorium will house a separate exhibit of artists’ interpretations of the theme “Water Is Life.” Artwalk will be held from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. General admission is $2; children under 12 get in free.

Museum officials are taking the opportunity to unveil a new California condor exhibit in the Bird Habitat Hall. Staff biologists spent 12 years tracking and studying a particular female condor prior to her death. The condor had a nine-foot wingspan and weighed about 20 pounds. In the exhibit, the condor is shown soaring over a topographical map depicting her native Santa Barbara County habitat.

Here’s one that may have people thinking twice the next time they enter a stadium. Beginning Saturday, the Santa Barbara Museum of Art will present the exhibit “Stadium VII by Antonio Muntadas.” Through videos, slides, photographs and a soundtrack, Muntadas takes a look at the “cultural, political and commercial functions” of the stadium and how an audience can be “manipulated by an event.”

The traveling exhibit has been altered at each of its stops to reflect the locale. The Santa Barbara version will include photos from the County Bowl, the Earl Warren Showgrounds and UC Santa Barbara.

Muntadas’ past exhibits have also been about power and control in society, centering on boardrooms, press conference rooms, back rooms at art galleries, and limousines equipped with telephones and fax machines.

“Stadium” will continue through Jan. 12. The museum is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursdays and noon to 5 p.m. Sundays. It is at 1130 State St. Call 963-4364.

La Jolla photographer Robert Yin has made several trips to the Philippines and he’s more than happy to prove it. Theatre Pacifica in Santa Barbara will celebrate Halloween with a presentation of “Haunted Lives” on Wednesday and Oct. 31 at the Center Stage Theater beginning at 8 p.m. The production consists of three horror stories that, the group warns, include some scenes that might not be appropriate for children or squeamish adults.
