Credit Card Issuer Can’t Charge Late Fees: A federal judge in Boston ruled that the issuer of the Discover Card credit card can’t impose late charges on its Massachusetts cardholders. Scott Harshbarger, said the ruling could eventually prevent issuers of other credit cards, such as Visa and MasterCard, from charging late fees in the state. Massachusetts law prohibits credit card companies from imposing late charges on Massachusetts credit card customers. Massachusetts law, not Delaware law, applies to Massachusetts cardholders, despite contrary language in Greenwood Trust’s credit card agreements with its customers, the judge said.
