Lesson in School Costs
In response to Marvin Brehm’s letter (“Classroom Spending,” Oct. 15): Perhaps he needs to return to school for some lessons in common sense. He quotes teachers’ salaries and classroom supplies as not depleting the approximated $150,000 budget for a 30-student classroom. Of course, this statement fails to include expenditures such as student transportation, reduced-cost lunch programs and clerical staff, which only make up a fraction of the many expenses. Brehm’s question regarding money in our schools should not be “Where has all the money gone?” but “Why aren’t we paying more?”
