Troy Comes Back Twice in Fourth Quarter to Beat Sonora

Brent Coon caught a 38-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Brent Lacher with 1:18 remaining to give Troy a 35-32 Freeway League victory over Sonora Friday night at La Habra High School.

The Warriors rallied twice in the fourth quarter to win their second consecutive league game after beginning the season 0-4-1.

James Hartford scored his third touchdown of the game on at two-yard run with 10:40 left to give Troy a 28-26 lead, but Sonora came back on a two-yard run by Payem Heidary, his third of the game.

Troy (2-4-1, 2-0) then drove 66 yards in four minutes. Lacher converted a fourth-down sneak, then threw his touchdown pass to a wide-open Coon.

Sonora (2-5, 0-2), with no timeouts remaining, drove from its own 31 to the Troy 30. On fourth and eight, Sonora Coach Terry Cox decided against the field-goal try and went for the game-winning touchdown, but Robert Knowles’ pass fell incomplete with three seconds left.

Hartford rushed for a game-high 98 yards on 18 carries and was five for five in extra point attempts. Knowles completed 17 of 34 passes for 200 yards and two touchdowns.

The game was marred by penalties. Troy had 15 for 114 yards, and Sonora had 13 for 130.
