Ready for the Hall?
Excuse me, but Robert Hilburn’s ignorance of the Grateful Dead is showing--again.
In “Honoring Rock’s Greatest--Cream and the Crop” (Oct. 20), he says: “Eyebrows should be raised over the omissions of such potential candidates as . . . the Grateful Dead” for nomination to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. He goes on to say that “artists aren’t eligible until 25 years after their first recording.”
The Grateful Dead’s first album was released on March 17, 1967, which means, of course, that they will be eligible for the first time next year.

According to the Grateful Dead’s publicist, the group released its first single, “Don’t Ease Me In,” on Scorpio Records in 1966 .
