CARL-TOON: You’ve seen jovial, grandfatherly, 74-year-old Carl Karcher pushing his Carl’s Jr. chain in his TV commercials. His ad people have a new idea for the next campaign: a cartoon Carl. . . . “We’re going to have a lot of fun with this,” Karcher says. But Adweek magazine says it’s because Karcher’s own appearances have “done little to establish an identity for the chain.” Karcher says that’s not true, and he’s miffed at Adweek.
